The British Association of Hokkaido Ken is the only UK breed club for the Hokkaido. Our kennel owner, Liv is also the president of the club. The BAHK is working towards full kennel club recognition of the breed, something that will hopefully help the breed greatly in the future.

Irish Kennel Club (FCI) is the current kennel club that our dogs are registered with due to the UK kennel Club not recognising the Hokkaido breed. All of our puppies will continue to be sent to owners with Irish kennel Club paperwork including pedigrees until the UK Kennel Club recognises the breed.

Ainu Dog Museum is a Japanese website dedicated to the Hokkaido Ken.

Hokkaido Ken Hozonkai is the premier registry for the Hokkaido Ken breed in Japan. The registry is recognised by the Japanese kennel Club.

FCI Hokkaido is the Federation Cynologique Internationale Hokkaido page which lists the breed standard.

Toboetsuki Hokkaido Ken is the breeder of our two Hokkaido, Momo and Uzume. Lindsey is based in Wiltshire. She is a great friend and mentor to us here at Ichiyo kensha.

The Nihon Ken Blog is run by Shigeru Kato who hunts with and breeds Nihon Ken. The website is a fantastic source of information for all Nihon Ken enthusiasts.

The Nihon Ken Forum Group is a fantastic Facebook group full of Nihon Ken owners, breeders, and enthusiasts. It is a great source of information, and also a fabulous place to hear about living with these primitive dog breeds.

Hokkaido Ken Hozonkai is the premier registry for the Hokkaido Ken breed in Japan. The registry is recognised by the Japanese kennel Club.

British Veterinary Association (BVA) Canine Health Schemes are the official health testing schemes of the UK. We conduct Hip and Eye schemes for all our breeding dogs at Ichiyo. The Hip scheme tests for hip dysplasia, and are x-rays taken by a vet, and then are reviewed by an orthopaedic BVA accredited veterinary surgeon and given a score, The lower the score, the better. The Eye scheme tests for hereditary eye conditions, and is conducted by a BVA accredited ophthalmology vet specialist.

The Association of Nihon Ken [UK] is the UK breed club for all of the six Nihon Ken breeds. However, it is particularly for the Kishu Ken, Kai Ken and Shikoku Ken as they do not have their own national breed clubs at this time. The ANK attends dog shows and events up and down the country with the aim to educate and inform the public of these stunning dogs.

EPI4Dogs is a fantastic non-profit website used to educate and support owners of dogs diagnosed with EPI. Please note this website is not a substitute for your veterinary surgeon but provides a wealth of information regarding the disease and its treatments.
